Is Smoking Affecting Your Computer?

I worked on computers for years, and consistently the machines in the worst shape came from homes of heavy smokers. The motherboards were caked in a nasty film, the fans ran very poorly, and overall they typically ran very hot. And to think, this is only a small representation of what is actually entering their lungs!

Many folks don't realize that the fans are configured differently on computers and most pull air in and out. The second hand smoke gets pulled in and the components of the PC act as a filter and most of it "sticks" to the inside. In perfectly clean homes, CPUs can become very dusty and regular cleaning is still a necessity. If you absolutely cannot kick the habit of smoking at your desk, there may still be a healthier solution for both you and your computer.

An electronic cigarette offers a great alternative to smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes. The "smoke" they produce is actually a water vapor which delivers nicotine to the smoker in the same fashion as they're used to. The best part for computer users is the vapor exhaled evaporates quickly and is harmless to your PC components and co-workers - nothing like the dangerous second hand smoke you're currently dealing with.

Of course, it makes sense to consult with your doctor before switching to any type of nicotine delivery system, but as a computer doctor, I must say this could be the easiest solution to your constantly crashing machines!
